No Borders in Our Sky – interactive public mural

June 23, 2020

After over 12 months of multimedia workshops, creating artworks, recording songs, interviews and stories, we were proud to install a large scale interactive mural that celebrates the diversity and creativity of young people engaged in the No Borders project in Wagga. 28 beautiful self portraits make up the mural, each portrait a window into the imaginations, journeys and reflections of more than 50 participants who came together to connect in friendship and harmony.

Using the app ‘Heaps Decent AR’, audiences can scan each portrait to reveal a unique AR activation with further content created by workshop participants; music, spoken word poetry, interviews, collages, animations, 3D paintings and digital sculptures.

It was great to see so many participants come down to see their artworks and interact with the AR activations. We are looking forward to returning to Wagga and resuming our workshops soon!

The No Borders project is funded by Multicultural NSW as part of the COMPACT program that aims to inspire young Australians from all communities to stand united as champions for community harmony. Workshops were led by Adam Bozzetto, Charlie O’Brien, Nerida Woods, Mark Egan, Howard Matthew and Isabella Martin. Many thanks to Jackie Okott who lead interviews and captured some thoughts and ideas, to Thom Paton for co-ordinating activities, and Wes Boney for capturing the Murrumbidgee.

If you are unable to see the mural in person, download the app ‘Heaps Decent AR’ on your phone and check out the self portraits below!
