Heaps Decent is an Australian organisation empowering young people through skills building, cultural access and creativity.
Working with underrepresented and marginalised youth, our participatory program of music and visual media activities provides a pathway to discovery, personal growth and agency through self-expression.A couple of weeks back, Heaps Decent was asked by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority to host an event as part of their pop-up arts venue “The Rocks Windmill”, a 10 metre high rotating windmill, used to house a month of arts events in the name of sustainability (the windmill obviously being the ultimate icon for sustainability).
So we were met with the task of putting on another showcase and the Home Base crew were more than eager to get to finishing new material and rehearsing for the big event! Home Base has grown into a very supportive atmosphere, with all the guys pitching in to help each other out and turn this into something they are proud of and in turn, we’re proud of them!
The show went off without a hitch, amazing performances from all with notable first time inclusions from Jaybee from Key College and Frankie, who we met only the week before at a workshop at Casula Powerhouse!
