Lykke Li is Heaps Decent

October 5, 2011

Last week in the midst of Parklife madness Charlie ChuxAdam Bozetto, Alison Wilkes and I were joined by none other than Lykke Li and her backing singer Zhala, as we headed to Juniperina Juvenile Justice Centre for HEAPS DECENT.

As we waited for the workshop to begin I was lucky enough to witness Lykke and Zhala reminiscing about when they used to sing in gospel choirs, followed shortly by the two of them busting out Sister Act songs including The Eye Of The Sparrow!

With Lykke and Zhala’s help, the girls in the workshop all ended up jumping on the mic and rapping some lyrics, and then all the girls sang a hook together to break up the verses (yes Lykke sang on the hook too!).

The following day I headed out there again, this time minus Lykke but plus Rowan Dix (a.k.a. Joyride), who provided a new group of girls with one of the sweetest beats I have heard in a long time.

Again, by the end all the girls in the workshop had a turn on the microphone and came up with such a catchy hook I had it stuck in my head the whole trip home.

Can’t wait to hear the finished versions of both songs soon…
