ABOUT HEAPS DECENT

Heaps Decent is an initiative committed to finding and nurturing the creativity of underprivileged and Indigenous young people and emerging artists. By providing resources and opportunities, Heaps Decent supports the development of high quality Australian music with a unique identity.

Heaps Decent aims to be nationally and internationally recognized as a creative connector of young artists, a producer of innovative music and instrumental in the unification of the Australian music scene.

Heaps Decent is driven by the belief that by providing support and positive engagement with creativity, barriers and obstacles to participation can be overcome and in doing so a new and unique music scene will be uncovered.

Established in 2007 by Sydney DJs Nina Agzarian and Andrew Levins with American DJ and Producer Diplo (Wesley Pentz) the first workshops were run in the remote community of Maningrida and the Riverina Juvenile Justice centre in the regional hub of Wagga Wagga, NSW. Heaps Decent currently offers ongoing music programs at multiple locations including schools, juvenile justice centres, drop in centres and studios as well as running distinct arts projects with partners such as Shopfront Contemporary Arts and Performance, the Sydney Opera House and the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Fuzzy, organisers of Australia’s premiere music events, have joined Heaps Decent as a key partner and benefactor.  After supporting Heaps Decent with donations in 2008, Fuzzy are providing an annual income to Heaps Decent and have allocated staff to handle administration and legalities.  Industry guests at Fuzzy events will also be able to contribute by donating $20 at the gate, these donations will go to expanding Heaps Decent’s reach across Australia.  With Fuzzy’s support, Heaps Decent is now able to take things to a higher level.

Heaps Decent is a public company limited by guarantee, has a board of Directors and operates under a ratified Constitution. Heaps Decent holds Tax Concession Charity status and Deductible Gift Recipient status granted by the Australian Tax Office and is a not- for profit organization.

Goals for the future include; Increasing the recognition of Indigenous artists to create a more integrated music scene and quality new music. Improving the lives of young people by providing positive opportunities and resources that engage and develop their creativity. Engaging and connecting young and emerging artists through a significant web presence that allows collaborations across distances. To be a HUB for the creation, promotion and development of new music for young and emerging artists
