Eleanor Louise Butt

September 11, 2017

Eleanor Louise Butt is a Melbourne based artist who graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a BFA (hons) in 2013. Eleanor makes process led paintings using a personal language of recurring shapes, negative space and distinctive colour. Built-up forms act out movements that describe, however abstractly, a personal cartography. Sketches and gestures create links and pathways. Through these applications and erasures, Eleanor’s canvases become a diaristic site for posing questions and receiving answers, generating agency through an intimate and reciprocal relationship between artist and object. Eleanor has exhibited widely at galleries including Sutton Projects (Melb), Spring 1883 (Melb), Carlsberg Byens Galleri & Kunstsalon (Copenhagen), Fort Delta  (Melb), Town Hall Gallery (Melb), Wellington St Projects (Syd), and was a finalist in the Macquarie Emerging Artist prize in 2016.
